Bears Have Dropped in NFL Salary Cap Room Race in 2025

Within NFL agencies, many teams have a certain level of flexibility financial as opposed to others. The graphic below displays the salary cap room in 2025 for all 32 teams. The information shows how much can be spent by the teams and which has the most under its cap limit of $279.2 million, according to the current NFL Players Association’s Public Salary Cap Report.

The Bears, once among the league leaders in cap room, have dropped its cap space after signing several offensive linemen and other free-agents heading into the 2025 season (see chart).

A salary cap is a maximum or limit of pay that is given to players in a season. This is typically done to ensure fairness among the players and to prevent teams with the most money from simply dominating the other teams.

The data shows the New England Patriots having the highest cap space at $63 million in cap space. This is followed by the Dallas Cowboys at $46.6 million, Detroit Lions at $43.5 million and the Washington Commanders with $39.8 million. These teams have more financial flexibility and leverage, giving them the ability to get players for future games, free agent signings, contracts, and more. On the other side, The Kansas City Chiefs, Buffalo Bills and New York Giants are near the bottom for salary cap space. These teams have $15 million in their leftover space. The teams with less have more financial constraints and usually focus on top players and deals.

The graphic expresses the gaps in financial salary caps in the NFL, with the top teams getting more freedom to buy and pursue the players they find promising. However, the teams with limited cap flexibility cannot do as many pursuits because of that limitation. The graphic represents not only the data, but the level of competition within these teams both in sports and financial. Although it may not seem obvious, the teams have to work around and plan strategically how to use their funds and to stay within the cap. Furthermore, these salary caps also keep everything fair, having its pros and cons that have been debated about until now.

All in all, these salary caps are crucial to the NFL, understanding them even more so. Within 2025 the salary cap will be a crucial part in how the game is played, who is playing, and the game plan in general. Even with divides and big differences in the cap amount left, it is important to take it into account and know about these big NFL teams and their spending. — Angeline Azroui

Ryne Sandberg’s Home Runs Across His Legendary Career

The cadence of one of baseball’s most subtly dominant careers can be seen when comparing Ryne Sandberg’s home run totals from year to year. The graphic below illustrates how Sandberg’s power developed through the mid-1980s until exploding in the 1989 and 1990 seasons, based on data from Baseball Reference.

Sandberg’s National Baseball Hall of Fame profile says that his standout seasons were a combination of discipline and sheer power. In an age when second basemen were rarely viewed as power threats, his consistent development and defensive dependability made him stand out, according to the Hall of Fame. His rise in the late 1980s contributed to this reputation, which changed people’s ideas of what the role could offensively offer.

Sandberg’s 1990 season, in which he hit 40 home runs — a total that not only led the National League but also changed the standards for second basemen — remains his most memorable year. That milestone, which represented both his physical peak and his increasing comfort level at the plate, almost doubled his home run production from previous seasons.

Sandberg’s home run totals increased steadily from his 1982 debut through the mid-1980s, indicating that he was improving his swing and timing. He became a fan favorite in 1989 after hitting 30 home runs and leading the Chicago Cubs during a postseason run. His power numbers varied in the early 1990s as age and injuries started to become a factor. His 26 home runs in 1996, close to the end of his career, however, demonstrated his durability and versatility.

These data trends offer more than simply statistics; they can reveal details about an athlete’s growth. Sandberg’s patterns include the gradual ascent, sudden peak and steady decline that define many great hitters. The visual data supports the anecdotal memories of fans of a player who combined dominance outbursts with consistency. Indeed, his ascent to fame was exemplified by events such as “The Sandberg Game,” a 1984 classic in which he hit two home runs off Bruce Sutter, solidifying his legacy not only with statistics but also with standout performances that influenced Cubs history.

Sandberg’s numbers provide insight into how offensive expectations changed in the pre-steroid era, in addition to his own success. Teams’ perceptions of second basemen were altered by his ability to generate power from a position that was generally defensive.

Baseball Almanac’s comprehensive year-by-year record also highlights Sandberg’s tenacity and consistency during more than 10 years of elite play, despite his fluctuating home run totals. Even though he still had 40 home runs in 1990, his return to strong power numbers later in his career shows that his legacy isn’t dependent on a single season but rather on a consistent level of performance. Ultimately, Sandberg’s homer history is a tale of adaptability, durability and subdued domination that goes beyond statistics rather than merely being about peak performance. — Jasmin Barragan

Why 18.9 Million Tuned In for Women’s March Madness 2024

From TikTok highlights to billion-dollar sponsorships, the rise in viewership reflects how social media and investment are reshaping women’s sports.

Viewership for the 2024 NCAA Women’s Basketball Championship reached 18.9 million, more than doubling the previous year and outdrawing the men’s final by nearly 4 million, according to Nielsen ratings. That spike is part of a broader economic and cultural shift driven by what analysts are calling the “Caitlin Clark Effect”. The surge marked a defining moment for women’s sports, reflecting how modern media spaces can turn individual athletes into cultural icons and spark massive audience growth.

This chart shows the rise in viewership for key NCAA Women’s March Madness games from 2022 to 2024, highlighting the record-setting growth in 2024.

Not long ago, watching sports meant turning on the TV or showing up in the stands. Now, fans are just as likely to experience the game through their phones. TikTok and Instagram have become highlight hubs, where quick edits, reactions, and behind-the-scenes clips make women’s basketball feel closer and more interactive than ever. These short videos turn key plays into viral moments and players into personalities, expanding the fanbase beyond traditional audiences. According to Parity, 20% of fans now follow individual women athletes online, a larger share than those who follow teams or leagues. This engagement creates the effect that Parity calls an “authenticity premium,” where fans form deeper, more personal connections with athletes than traditional advertising or broadcasts ever could.

Clark’s impact also accelerated investment across professional women’s basketball. DCReport notes that one in every six WNBA tickets sold in 2024 can be attributed to her influence, and several franchises moved games to larger arenas to meet demand. The WNBA generated $136 million in media value from brand partnerships in 2023 and secured a $2.2 billion media rights deal in 2024. It’s clear that both fans and advertisers are moving fast to be part of this new wave of visibility and engagement.

In a world where every highlight can go viral, visibility turns into real value. March Madness 2024 revealed that with consistent coverage and digital reach, women’s sports can transform casual viewers into dedicated fans. With momentum on their side, all eyes are on the 2025 season to show just how far this wave of hype and investment can go. — Fatima Mora Garcia

Travis Kelce’s Career: A Legacy of Greatness Still Growing

Even for those who seldom interact with the world of sports, Kelce has pierced the zeitgeist. After winning three Super Bowl championship rings, his newfound mainstream interest has been caused by another ring he gave to music legend Taylor Swift. For those just entering the Chief’s Kingdom, a career retrospective on Kelce is in order.

Few players have reshaped their position in the way Kelce has. In more than a decade with the Kansas City Chiefs, Kelce has turned the tight end role into an art form, equal parts power, precision and personality.

A look at his regular-season statistics showcase why he’s destined for the Hall of Fame. Since becoming a full-time starter in 2014, Kelce has been a model of dominance and durablity. His receptions could tell the story alone: from 67 in 2014 to triple-digit seasons in 2018 (103), 2020 (105), and 2022 (110). Even as he entered his mid-30s, Kelce remained a critical piece of the Chiefs’ offense, hauling in 97 catches for 823 yards in 2024.

Even including these incredible statistics, it’s his consistency that sets him apart from his contemporaries. Between 2016 and 2022, Kelce posted seven consecutive 1,000-yard seasons, a record for tight ends. In 2020, he came within a few years of leading the entire league in receiving, finishing with 1,416 yards and 11 touchdowns. Numbers like those used to belong exclusively to elite wideouts, but Kelce has made them standard for a tight end.

That partnership has rewritten Kansas City’s offensive history. Together, Mahomes and Kelce have delivered three Super Bowl titles and countless highlight-reel moments — the no-look passes, the broken tackles, the clutch conversions when the Chiefs needed them most.

According to Pro Football Reference, Kelce now ranks first in Chiefs franchise history in receptions, receiving yards, and touchdowns. His career totals — more than 1,000 catches, over 12,000 yards, and nearly 80 touchdowns — place him among the NFL’s all-time greats, tight end or otherwise.

Off the field, Kelce’s charisma has made him one of football’s most recognizable faces. Whether it’s his podcast, his style, or his now-famous sideline celebrations, he’s become a cultural icon without ever losing the competitive edge that defines him.

As he heads into the twilight of his career, there’s little left for Kelce to prove — but that hasn’t stopped him yet. Each new season adds another layer to his résumé. — Vereen Thakkar

Through his 18 years, Clayton Kershaw has established himself as one of the best pitchers we have ever seen. A main piece for the Los Angeles Dodgers since 2008, he has collected three Cy Young awards, an MVP, a Gold Glove, a Roberto Clemente award, and 11 All-Star selections.

Additionally, he is a two-time World Series champion with 223 regular season wins. On July 2, 2025, he became the 20th pitcher in Major League Baseball to reach this milestone. Shortly thereafter, he announced his retirement from baseball after the 2025 season.

His journey to 3,000 strikeouts wasn’t just about dominance, but his loyalty, determination, and consistency have helped shape his legacy. His road wasn’t without any challenges as well. He missed time later in his career due to lower back injuries and shoulder problems. He was known for his reliability throughout his career because he was always healthy for his team. Throughout career, he has never had a Tommy John surgery, which has almost become a norm for pitchers today.

In 2011 he recorded 248 strikeouts, and in 2015 he recorded 301 strikeouts, which was his highest total per year in his career. Those were his best two years in the sense of strikeouts. Those years were important to his race to 3000 strikeouts and gave him the opportunity to get to this milestone in the last year of his career.

As he nears the end of his career, everyone is starting to think about what his legacy will be. Many fans talk about his postseason struggles, but they will never define who he was and is as a player. Reaching 3000 strikeouts put him in the same talks with legends like Randy Johnson and Nolan Ryan.

This milestone will be remembered forever, which cements his legacy. When he retires, the Dodgers and the baseball community will miss his excellence on the mound for years to come. — Mike Vitellaro
